About Little Hen

Each feather used in Little Hen earrings comes from a beautiful heritage chicken that roams Ravenhill, foraging for bugs, seeds and leaves. The flock of happy hens, under the protection of radiant roosters, lay eggs in glorious shades of green, blue, brown, rose and cream. The chickens are never killed for their feathers. We put considerable time into finding feathers and curating each pair to create a unique look and feel. No two feathers are the same so please expect a balanced and symmetrical look while knowing that feathers don’t come in “twins”. And because of this, you’ll never see another person wearing the same pair as you! Finally, we only use sterling silver (925 grade) to ensure that you can enjoy your earrings for many years to come.

Little Hen is the collaborative effort of two women who grew up in the beautiful Cowichan Valley of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Friends since high school, Brea and Christy are grateful for the opportunity to bring a sustainable approach to the jewelry industry.

Brea is the co-owner of Ravenhill Herb Farm located on the Saanich Peninsula just north of Victoria, the capital of British Columbia. She cares deeply about positively contributing to her community and the planet while celebrating the simple joys of nature. She adores her flock of chickens, herd of goats, two livestock guardian dogs, and all of the creatures that make Ravenhill home. Brea is a co-visionary of Pacific Rim College’s “Permaculture Design & Resilient Ecosystems” program that takes place yearly from February until December at Ravenhill Herb Farm and another campus farm.
